5 Ways to Transition into Winter

You may have noticed that the days are getting shorter, the temperatures are cooler, and some white flakes have even started falling from the sky. Yup, winter is here to stay, so let’s embrace it!

While we will miss warm summer days, winter is the season of slowing down, getting cozy, and spending quality time (indoors) with family and friends. Today we are bringing you a few of our favourite ways to enjoy the colder weather without having to go outside.

1.Whip up a batch of your favourite baked good.

2. Light a candle to create some ambiance.

Candles are a must during the winter months. If you don’t have a fireplace, they are an affordable, easy way to create some ambiance and warmth in your home. We are eager to make this DIY lemon essential oil candle, which would also make a fabulous holiday gift. Look for candles in other classic winter scents like pine, cranberry, peppermint, gingerbread, and vanilla!

3. Soothe winter sickness with a hot toddy.

The main drawback of winter is that it marks the peak of cold and flu season! Luckily, we’ve got you covered with a comforting Lighthouse Lemonade hot toddy to soothe sore throats and reduce congestion. Try this drink non-alcoholic for the kids or make the traditional version with whiskey.

  • 1 tbsp of Lighthouse Lemon Cordial
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 ½ oz whiskey (optional)
  • 2 tsp honey or to taste
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Non-alcoholic: omit whiskey and add 1 tbsp grated ginger to hot water

  1. In a teapot or saucepan, bring water to a boil and pour into a mug.
  2. Add the whiskey, 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of Lighthouse Lemonade. Stir until the honey has melted.
  3. Garnish with a lemon round and cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

4. Stay inside and crack open a new book.

Some of the best winter nights are spent indoors curled up with a good book. Round up your most comfortable blankets, light a candle, and get your hot toddy ready! 5. Get crafty!

Winter is the opportune time to take up a new hobby! We suggest stocking up on craft supplies, inviting some friends over and tackling a fun DIY. Because we are lemon-obsessed, why not make these beautiful citrus ornaments, this festive wreath, or a decorative table setting? Decorating for the holidays can be creative and budget-friendly!
